AI Infrastructure and Long Waves

Testing whether the AI compute-infrastructure boom marks a new technological long wave, a renewed phase of the ICT paradigm, a sectoral overbuild or a strategically sustained infrastructure race.

The scale of investment in chips, data centres and power is clear. Its economic meaning is not.

This project will test the long-wave hypothesis against competing explanations using company filings, national accounts, infrastructure and energy data, measures of adoption, and realised productivity.
